Frequently Asked Questions
What types of runners do you work with?
It doesn’t matter if you are beginner, recreational or competitive runner placing in the back, middle or front of the pack. The sport of running is about individual progress and development, not about the pack you are in or your placement in the pack. As long as you are goal-oriented and committed to your training, I’ll be happy to partner with you.
How do I book a coaching session, package or training plan?
Steps for New Clients:
- Client reviews the coaching sessions and packages on the SERVICES page and purchases the item# that meets their need. Not sure what to pick? Don’t worry, book one and we’ll fix it later.
- Client completes and submits a New Client Intake Form.
- Coach reviews Client input and emails a meeting invitation within 24-hours with session type, date, time and location.
NOTE: Booking and paying for a session initiates the review of your client intake form. So be sure that you have already paid for your session or plan to do so today. I’ll respond with 24-hours of receiving both form and payment.
Steps for Existing Clients:
- Client and Coach decide on future sessions based on budget, need, and progress
- Client prepays and schedules their session
What payment methods do you accept? How secure is the payment method?
All sessions must be paid for in advance. We accept Zelle and major credit cards.Credit card billing is handled directly through a certified and reputable online payment processor (Square) and we never see or store your payment information. In addition, https://CoachMarkRobinson.com is SSL certified.
What are your cancellation, rescheduling and refund policies?
Note: Charges and refunds should appear from Coach Mark Robinson on your credit card statement.
Cancellations & Refunds: We do not keep what we haven’t earned.
You may cancel coaching sessions and packages at anytime for a full refund of unused portions as determined by the coach. All refunds will be credited to your original payment method (if requested within 110 days of purchase) or check (less the 3% credit card processing fee) and take 7-10 business days to process.
Rescheduling: Client will provide coach with as much notification as possible via text or email if they need to reschedule or postpone a scheduled session. The following penalties will apply:
- 48+ hours notification or force majeure – no penalty
- 24-48 hours notification – 25% penalty
- 12-24 hours notification – 50% penalty
- 6-12 hours notification – 75% penalty
- 0-6 hours notification – 100% penalty
While sympathetic to busy schedules and emergencies, Coach Mark is unable to absorb the financial impact of late cancellations as cancelled timeslots cannot be retrieved. So rather than cancel a session late, consider having the coach work on a coaching assignment for you during that timeslot and get some value for your money.
Sub-Par Weather Conditions: Runners need to be prepared and ready to compete and therefore train in sub-par weather conditions, like light to moderate rain, etc. Practice will only be cancelled without penalty for actual or forecasted dangerous weather conditions (heavy rain, thunderstorm, flooding, lightning, 100+ ℉ heat index, etc.,) at the session venue during your timeslot based on the Fox Weather App future radar.
What should I do if I still have questions before booking a coaching session or package?
Please send me a message via the CONTACT page or via email with your detailed and specific questions. Or, if you really need to have a brief conversation with me instead, say so in your message and include the best time slots to try and call you back.
What happens if I sign up for a coaching package and need to put my training on hold due to an injury, illness or significant change in my life?
No problem! Your package will be placed on hold for up to 1 year until you are ready to return.
Do I really need to take the time to complete a new client intake questionnaire before I can receive personal running coaching services?
Whether you are planning on a brief or long-term coaching relationship, the more I know about you in advance, the better equipped I will be to provide you with exceptional service during your new client consultation and throughout the partnership. As is often the case, the more you put into a relationship, the more you’ll get out of it, and the better I know you, the more tailored and impactful my coaching recommendations.
Please take the time to answer all relevant questions as completely and throughly as possbile. The more details, the better!
Is the liability waiver mandatory?
Yes. A signed WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNIFICATION is required by all clients prior to activation of any services and before training may begin.
Which running GPS watch do you recommend?
I use and am very familiar with Garmin products. Clients that use a Garmin product can easily share their run data with me on the Garmin Connect platform.
For competitive runners I recommend a used Garmin Forerunner 735XT in combination with a Running Dynamics Pod clip on. It’s a great older model that does everything at a value price. Amazon usually has the best new prices, and Mercari the best availability and pricing of used devices at approximately 50% off the Amazon retail price.
Models to consider are as follows:
- Forerunner® 245
- Forerunner® 645
- Forerunner® 735XT
- Forerunner® 745
- Forerunner® 935
- Forerunner® 945
Note: All devices listed above are able to display Running Dynamics when used in combination with an HRM-Run, HRM-Tri, and Running Dynamics Pod.

For recreational runners I recommend the cheapest used-Garmin Forerunner that you like so you can track distance, time and pace and allow you to set autolap distance to 1/4-mile.
Why don't you offer monthly training plan subscriptions with unlimited communications like other personal running coaches?
The simple answer is, because some training plans and/or relationships require much more time than others and one group shouldn’t have to subsidize the other.
I offer custom-tailored training plans and guidance and every client has different needs, level of experience, preferred style of engagement and budgets. As such, coaching time and frequency requirements vary significant from client to client and from month to month with the same client. So, I only offer Pay-As-You-Go plans and charge for my time. The current rate is $60 per hour or $1 per minute.
How much does it cost to work with Coach Mark and is there a minimum time commitment required?
It really is a Pay-As-You-Go service. Every client has different needs, level of experience, preferred style of engagement and budgets. So, I offer consults, training sessions, packages, and custom-tailored training plans to meet each client’s unique requirements. Some clients may spend as liittle as $30 for a one-off consult, while others may spend hundreds of dollars annually for ongoing coaching.
In general, I charge clients $60 per hour for my time and all sessions and packages are priced accordingly. My time includes prep, research, online and in-person time.
What times are you available for in-person and virtual coaching?
My primary work schedule is flexible allowing me to provide coaching services between 6:00am – 10:00pm (Houston/Central USA Time) any day of the week, including weekends.
The facilities I use do not have lights, so in-person sessions between dusk and dawn require the use of personal head lamps (provided) and lanterns placed on the rubber track.
I see that Coach Mark is a track & field and running coach on CoachUp.com. Can I use that platform to book him?
Yes, you can, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Here’s why:
- You’ll Pay More – CoachUp.com will charge you a one-time Placement Fee of $24.99 for your first booking with each new coach. They will also charge you a 5% service fee on each and every transaction. On average you’ll pay an extra $27.99 in fees for your first 1-hour $60 session.
- I’ll Earn Less – CoachUp double-dips on fees. In addition to charging clients the above fees, CoachUp also charges coaches fees. CoachUp.com charges a whopping 40% commission on the first session booked by a client and a reasonable 3% commission on the 5th+ session booked, plus the standard 3% credit card processing fee. On average coaches earn $24.00 – 25.80 less for their first 1-hour $60 session. In addition, coaches pay a $30.00 one-time Activation Fee to get listed, and then $9.99 annually for a membership/background check fee.
